PGIM’s determined effort to confront widespread investor concerns about private credit, and direct lending strategies in particular, that surfaced in the second half of 2025 and extended into 2026 are exemplified in this video featuring Dianna Carr-Coletta, Managing Director and Partner within the firm’s Alternatives Direct Lending Group.
Carr-Coletta reinforces PGIM’s view that the asset and wealth management industries take collective responsibility for the client education required to correct the often-overblown media representations that have fueled these concerns. The firm believes the asset class remains fundamentally sound and vibrant.
Carr-Coletta counsels that investments in direct lending strategies should be inherently long-term – buy-and-hold – in nature and that investors need to understand they will be rewarded for their patience with predictable income streams and a hedge against inflation. She also champions the “boring” qualities of the senior-secured debt that is central to the strategy and key to the long-term stability of the asset class.
She emphasizes that investors need to recognize the fundamental differences between public and private underwriting, highlighting the painstaking due diligence that goes into the decision-making process behind each portfolio company’s inclusion. Carr-Coletta notes that it’s a combination of this rigorous underwriting discipline and senior credit’s sanctuary-status and predictability that should persuade investors to stay allocated in private credit.
