Hirotaka Kato is Managing Director and Head of PGIM Japan’s Portfolio Solutions Group.
In this role, Kato is responsible for collaborating with PGIM’s Strategic Capital Group to cultivate relationships with insurers, strategic partners and other institutional investors in Japan, providing them with holistic portfolio management and access to solutions across PGIM’s multi-asset platform.
Before joining the firm in 2023, Kato founded and ran an M&A advisory firm. Prior to that, Kato spent 16 years at Citigroup. During his tenure, he held various roles as an investment banker. From 2019 to 2021, Kato was co-head of the Investment Banking division (IBD), where he was responsible for overseeing the entire division.
Kato has over two decades of financial services experience. Earlier in his career, Mr. Kato served as head of the Financial Institutions Group. Previously, he was also in charge of the insurance sector. From 2002, he was with HSBC, where he was engaged in M&A advisory business both in the London and Japan offices. He began his career as an accountant.
Kato earned his B.A. in economics from The University of Tokyo. He is a certified public accountant.
