Mao Dong is Managing Director, Co-Head of Portfolio Management and Head of Portfolio Research for PGIM Multi-Asset Solutions (PMA). As Co-Head of Portfolio Management, Mao is responsible for designing and managing multi-asset portfolios for institutional clients, including developing and applying relative value views across public and private investment strategies. In his role as Head of Portfolio Research, Mao leads a team of strategists dedicated to delivering multi-asset research across public and private markets, portfolio construction guidance, and forward-looking strategic insights—serving as a key source of idea and strategy generation behind PMA’s investment process.
Prior to joining PMA in 2024, Mao was Co-Head of OCIO Portfolio Management at Goldman Sachs. In this role, Mao led a team of portfolio managers, overseeing strategic and dynamic asset allocation, portfolio implementation, and risk management for OCIO portfolios globally. Mao was also Head of Portfolio Construction and Manager Research, where he established and oversaw portfolio construction best practices as well as manager selection and monitoring. As part of his responsibilities, Mao also served as senior portfolio manager for several of the firm’s multi-asset class funds across global equity, fixed income and public real assets.
Mao has over 14 years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing complex multi-asset portfolios for institutional clients, including corporate pension plans, insurance balance sheet assets, endowments, and foundations. His expertise spans asset allocation, dynamic / tactical asset allocation, manager selection, risk management, and liquidity management.
Mao earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and FINRA Series 3, 7, and 63 licenses.
