Benchmark Definitions Page

All indexes are weighted, unmanaged indexes that provide broad indicators of market movements in that particular index. An investment cannot be made directly in an index or average. All data is unaudited and subject to change. The Russell indexes and Russell are trademarks of the Frank Russell Company.

Alerian MLP Index is an unmanaged index and the leading gauge of energy Master Limited Partnerships (MLPs). The capped, float-adjusted, capitalization-weighted index, constituents represent approximately 85% of total float-adjusted market capitalization.

Bloomberg 1-5 Year US Credit Index is an unmanaged index of publicly issued U.S. corporate and specified foreign debentures and secured notes that meet specific maturity (between one and five years), liquidity, and quality requirements. It gives a broad look at how short- and intermediate-term bonds have performed.

Bloomberg 1-15 Yr Municipal Index is a subset of the Bloomberg U.S. Municipal Index that covers the USD-denominated long-term tax exempt bond market. The index has four main sectors: state and local general obligation bonds, revenue bonds, insured bonds and prerefunded bonds. The 1-15 Yr index contains bonds with maturities between 1 and 15 years.

Bloomberg 1-8 Yr Municipal Index is an unmanaged index that includes all benchmark eligible investment grade municipal bonds with maturities from 1 to 8 years.

Bloomberg California 1-15 Yr Municipal Index is a subset of the Bloomberg U.S. Municipal Index that covers the USD-denominated long-term tax exempt bond market. The index has four main sectors: state and local general obligation bonds, revenue bonds, insured bonds and prerefunded bonds. The California 1-15 Yr index contains bonds with maturities between 1 and 15 years issued by municipalities in California.

Bloomberg Global Aggregate Bond Index is an unmanaged index of global investment-grade fixed income markets. The three major components of this index are the U.S. Aggregate, the Pan-European Aggregate, and the Asian-Pacific Aggregate Indices. The index also includes Eurodollar and Euro-Yen corporate bonds, Canadian government, agency and corporate securities.

Bloomberg Global Aggregate Bond (USD Hedged) Index provides a broad-based measure of the global investment-grade fixed income markets, with index components for the U.S. Aggregate, the Pan-European Aggregate and the Asian Pacific Aggregate. Returns for the index are hedged to the U.S. Dollar.

Bloomberg Government Bond Index is an unmanaged index of securities issued or backed by the U.S. Government, its agencies and instrumentalities with between one and thirty years remaining to maturity. It gives a broad look at how U.S. Government bonds with such maturities have performed.

Bloomberg Muni Bond Index is an unmanaged index of long-term investment-grade municipal bonds.

Bloomberg U.S. Aggregate Bond Index covers the USD-denominated, investment-grade, fixed-rate or step up, taxable bond market of SEC-registered securities and includes bonds from Treasury, Government- Related, Corporate, MBS (agency fixed-rate & hybrid ARM passthroughs), ABS, & CMBS sectors. Securities included in the index must have at least 1 year until final maturity & be rated investment-grade (Baa3/ BBB-/BBB-) or better using middle rating of Moody’s, S&P, & Fitch.

Bloomberg U.S. Corporate HY 1% Issuer Capped Index - is an issuer-constrained version of the Bloomberg U.S. Corporate High Yield Index that covers the U.S. dollar denominated, non-investment grade, fixed-rate, taxable corporate bond market. It follows the same construction rules as the uncapped index, but limits issuer exposure to a maximum 1% and redistributes the excess market value index-wide on a pro-rata basis.

Bloomberg U.S. Credit Bond Index is an unmanaged index which covers publicly issued U.S. corporate and specified foreign debentures and secured notes that meet the specified maturity, liquidity, and quality requirements.

Bloomberg U.S. Government/Credit 1-3 Year Index is an unmanaged index considered representative of the performance of short-term U.S. corporate bonds and U.S. government bonds with maturities from one to three years.

Bloomberg U.S. TIPS Index includes all publicly issued, U.S. Treasury inflation-protected securities that have at least one year remaining to maturity, are rated investment grade, and have $250 million or more of outstanding face value.

Citigroup 3-Month T-Bill Index represents monthly return equivalents of yield averages of the last 3 month Treasury Bill issues.

Credit Suisse Leveraged Loan Index is an unmanaged index that represents the investable universe of the dollar-denominated leveraged loan market.

FTSE EPRA/NAREIT Developed ex-U.S. Net Index - Financial Times Stock Exchange European Public Real Estate Association/National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (FTSE EPRA/NAREIT) Developed ex-U.S. Net Total Return Index tracks the performance of listed REITs and real estate companies globally, excluding the U.S.

FTSE EPRA/NAREIT Developed Real Estate Index  is designed to track the performance of listed real estate companies and REITs worldwide.

FTSE NAREIT Equity REITs Index is an unmanaged index which measures the performance of all real estate investment trusts listed on the New York Stock Exchange, the NASDAQ National Market, and the American Stock Exchange.

JP Morgan EMBI Global Diversified Index is an unmanaged, comprehensive Emerging Markets index that tracks hard currency bonds issued by Emerging Markets issuers.

Lipper Equity Income Index tracks funds that seek relatively high current income and growth of income by investing at least 65% of their portfolio in dividend-paying equity securities. These funds’ gross or net yield must be at least 125% of the average gross or net yield of the U.S. diversified equity fund universe.

Lipper Global Natural Resources Index consists of approximately the 30 largest global natural resources funds.

MSCI All Country World Index is an unmanaged free float-adjusted market capitalization-weighted index that is designed to measure the equity market performance of developed and emerging markets. The MSCI ACWI consists of 47 country indexes comprising 23 developed and 24 emerging market country indexes.

MSCI All Country World ex-US Index is a free float-adjusted market capitalization weighted index that is designed to measure the equity market performance of developed and emerging markets, excluding the U.S. It comprises approximately 22 developed and 24 emerging market country indexes.

MSCI All Country World ex USA Small Mid Cap Index captures mid and small cap representation across 22 of 23 Developed Market (DM) countries (excluding the US) and 24 Emerging Markets countries. The index covers approximately 28% of the free float-adjusted market capitalization in each country.

MSCI All Country World Small Mid Cap Index captures mid and small cap representation across 23 Developed Markets (DM) and 24 Emerging Markets (EM) countries. The index covers approximately 28% of the free float-adjusted market capitalization in each country.

MSCI All Country World Information Technology Index is designed to capture the large and mid-cap segments across 23 Developed Markets (DM) countries. All securities in the index are classified in the Information Technology sector as per the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS®).

MSCI EAFE Index a market capitalization-weighted index comprised of companies representative of the market structure of 21 developed market countries in Europe, Australia and the Far East. The MSCI EAFE Index is available both in local currency and U.S. dollar terms.

MSCI Emerging Market Index is a free float-adjusted market capitalization index that is designed to measure equity market performance of emerging markets. It consists of the following 26 emerging market country indexes: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.

Russell 1000 Defensive Index measures the performance of the large-cap defensive segment of the U.S. equity universe. It includes those Russell 1000 Index companies with relatively stable business conditions which are less sensitive to economic cycles, credit cycles, and market volatility based on their stability variables. Stability is measured in terms of volatility (price and earnings), leverage, and return on assets.

Russell 1000® Growth Index is unmanaged and contains those securities in the Russell 1000 Index with a greater-than-average growth orientation. Companies in this index tend to exhibit higher price-to-book and price-to-earnings ratios.

Russell 1000® Value Index is unmanaged and measures the performance of those Russell 1000 companies with lower price-to-book ratios and lower forecasted growth values.

Russell 2000® Value Index is unmanaged and comprises securities in the Russell 2000 Index with a less-than-average growth orientation. Companies in this index generally have low price-to-book and price-to-earnings ratios.

Russell 2500TM Index is unmanaged and measures the performance of the small- to mid-cap segment of the U.S. equity universe. The Index is a subset of the Russell 3000 Index. It includes approximately 2500 of the smallest securities based on a combination of their market cap and current index membership.

Russell 3000® Index is an unmanaged index that measures the performance of the 3,000 largest U.S. companies based on total market capitalization, which represents approximately 90% of the investable U.S. equity market.

Russell Midcap® Growth Index measures the performance of those Russell Midcap companies with higher price/book ratios and higher forecasted growth values. The stocks are also members of the Russell 1000 Growth Index.

Russell Midcap® Value Index is unmanaged and measures the performance of those Russell Midcap companies with lower price-to-book ratios and lower forecasted growth values.

S&P 1500 Financials Index comprises those companies included in the S&P Composite 1500 that are classified as members of the GICS® financials sector.

S&P 500 Index is an unmanaged index of 500 stocks of large U.S. companies. It gives a broad look at how U.S. stock prices have performed.

S&P Developed Property Net Index defines and measures the investable universe of publicly traded property companies domiciled in developed markets.

S&P Global Infrastructure Index is an unmanaged index that consists of 75 companies from around the world that represent the listed infrastructure universe. To create diversified exposure across the global listed infrastructure market, the index has balanced weights across three distinct infrastructure clusters: Utilities, Transportation, and Energy.

S&P 500 Utility Total Return Index is a market cap-weighted index of natural gas and electric companies.
