Joshua R. Cohen, CFA, is a Managing Director in PGIM’s Institutional Relationship Group (IRG). Mr. Cohen provides expert counsel and thought leadership to large Defined Contribution plans on investment issues ranging from plan design, Qualified Default Investment Alternatives (QDIA), implications of regulatory change and implementation. Mr. Cohen works on developing innovative solutions and thought leadership to help plan participants accumulate the wealth needed for their retirement. Prior to joining PGIM, Mr. Cohen was the Head of Defined Contribution for Russell Investments where he was responsible for the leadership, strategic direction, and growth of Russell Investments’ U.S. Defined Contribution (DC) asset management business across the institutional and intermediary channels. Prior to his twelve years at Russell Investments, Mr. Cohen spent nine years at Hewitt Associates.
Highly regarded throughout the industry and a recognized DC thought leader, Mr. Cohen served a three-year term (2013-2015) as a member of the Department of Labor’s ERISA Advisory Council on policies and regulations affecting employee benefit plans governed by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act. Mr. Cohen is also actively involved with several industry organizations, including the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI), where he serves as a member of the board of trustees and as the vice chair of the executive committee, and the Defined Contribution Institutional Investment Association (DCIIA), where he previously served on the executive committee and as the chair of the Retirement Research Board. In 2016, Mr. Cohen was identified by Chief Investment Officer (CIO) magazine as one of the world’s most influential investment thought leaders by being named to the annual Knowledge Brokers list. This marked the fourth consecutive year Mr. Cohen received this recognition.
Mr. Cohen earned his BA from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Mr. Cohen holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
